Nesbit is Orthopaedic Surgeons’ Top Legislator
Rep. Tedd Nesbit was named the Legislator of the Year by the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society (POS) at an event in October. Pictured with him are (from left) Jonathan Garino, M.D., second vice president; Asif Ilyas, M.D., first vice president; an Angela Rowe, D.O., president.
HERSHEY -- The Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society (POS) named State Rep. Tedd Nesbit (R- Mercer/Butler) as the Society’s Legislator of the Year at its fall conference.

Nesbit sponsored POS’s mandatory opioid e-prescribing legislation (House Bill 353). Gov. Tom Wolf signed Act 96 into law on Oct. 24, 2018. When fully implemented, this measure will mandate opioid prescriptions to be transmitted directly from a physician’s office to a pharmacy thus curtailing the illicit, but highly lucrative, trade in illegally diverted opioid medications.

“In his short time in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, Tedd Nesbit has distinguished himself as a friend of orthopaedics. He had no hesitation when we asked him to lead our successful effort to mandate opioid e-prescribing, legislation that Gov. Wolf signed into law last Tuesday,” stated outgoing President Angela Rowe, D.O., FAOAO, of Altoona. Dr. Rowe characterized Nesbit as “a trusted friend” who is “a constant voice within the House Republican Caucus in support of our members and our issues.”

In accepting the award, Nesbit stated, “I am honored by your recognition. Together, we advanced legislation that helps stop the illegal diversion of opioids and prevents them from falling into the wrong hands. Thank you for bringing this vital initiative to me. I am gratified by your confidence in my abilities to get the job done.”

A two-term Republican from Grove City, Nesbit represents parts of Mercer and Butler counties. A prosecutor and lawyer by trade, he also was a business owner and community volunteer working to strengthen the economy of northwestern Pennsylvania.

Advocating for excellence in the practice of orthopaedic medicine, POS is a professional medical specialty organization representing more than 1000 orthopaedic surgeons across Pennsylvania. For more information on the importance of bone, joint and muscle health at every age, visit
