Nesbit Says Local Fire, EMS Companies to Share More than $165,000 in State Grants
1/29/2018
HARRISBURG – More than $165,000 will be shared among 13 fire and EMS companies to continue serving our local communities, said Rep. Tedd Nesbit (R-Mercer/Butler).

“Local fire and ambulance organizations face a number of challenges, among them declining membership, increasing expenses and raising funds, in addition to responding to fires, accidents and other emergencies,” Nesbit said. “These first responders do so much for our communities that I’m glad the state has available a grant program which allows these companies to direct funding to their own specific needs.”

The Pennsylvania Fire Company and Volunteer Ambulance Service Grant Program awards funding to local organizations for the construction or renovation of a fire company or ambulance service’s primary structure; the purchase or repair of firefighting, ambulance or rescue equipment; training; or debt reduction.

Mercer County fire and ambulance companies in the 8th District receiving grants include:
• East End Volunteer Department No. 1, $14,676.
• Grove City Volunteer Fire Department, $13,570.
• Jackson Center Volunteer Fire Company, $13,570.
• Pine Township Engine Company, $15,000.
• Sandy Lake Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company and Relief Association, $11,543.
• Sheakleyville Community Volunteer Fire Department, $11,727.
• Stoneboro Volunteer Fire Department, $12,464.
• Volunteer First Department of Springfield Township, $14,123.

Butler County fire and ambulance companies within the 8th District to receive grants include:
• Harrisville Volunteer Fire Company, $12,280.
• Marion Township Volunteer Fire Company, $11,911.
• Portersville-Muddycreek Volunteer EMS, $7,037.
• Unionville Volunteer Fire Company Inc., $13,939.
• West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department, $13,386.

The grant program is funded solely by proceeds from the state’s gaming facilities and is administered by the Pennsylvania Office of Fire Commissioner.
